‘Shrimadvirat Veerabrahmendra Swamy Charitra’ is one of the films directed by NT Rama Rao as an actor and producer. NTR acted as screenplay as well as producer for this movie, which provided the words of the poet Kondaveeti Ventaka. NT Rama Rao’s son Nandamuri Mohana Krishna is the cinematographer for this movie. NT Rama Rao completed this film with a budget of Rs.30 lakhs. NTR acted in 5 roles as Potuluri Veerabrahmandraswamy, Gautama Buddha, Adi Shankaracharya, Ramanujacharya and Yogi Vemana in this movie.

Nandamuri Balakrishna played the role of Siddhaya, a disciple of VeeraBrahmandra Swamy. The Censor Board asked to delete a nude scene in the film which was completed in 1981. At the beginning of the movie, the scene where Vemana and Yogi became Vemana was shot. Bhogi Vemana becomes a Yogi after seeing his Vadina naked..Ihapara leaves all pleasures and becomes a poet.

But NTR argued with them that this scene is very important to tell how Vemana does not become a Yogi and filed a case in court against the Censor Board. For three years, the arguments of both parties went on in the court. In the end, this movie was released in 1984 after the court allowed to show that scene.

In 1981, NTR had planned to release this film with only 15 prints. As the film was made without any commercial hangs, he thought that people might not like it much. But after three years in 1984, the movie was released in a big way with around 100 prints. At that time it created a record by collecting more than Rs.6 crores. ‘Sri Madvirat Veerabrahmendra Swamy Charithu’ movie became the first Telugu movie to earn Rs.1 crore gross collection in the first week.. This movie, which brought 220 times the profit of the investment, played for 300 days in Hyderabad..

The three-year hiatus also came together well for the movie ‘Shrimadvirat Veerabrahmendra Swami Charitra’. As NTR had already established Telugu Desam Party and was the Chief Minister of the united Andhra Pradesh state, in 1984, people showed more interest in watching the movie ‘Shrimadvirat VeeraBrahmendra Swamy Charitri’.
